THE eyes of the racing world descend on the Curragh at 3.45pm on Saturday.

The Irish Derby takes centre stage – and with it Tuesday, the Oaks heroine looking to claim the big one for Ballydoyle.

Templegate has gone through every runner in the race and delivered his verdict below.

BOUNDLESS OCEAN 2

DEEP Ocean. He was beaten in a Listed contest at Leopardstown last time when trying this trip for the first time.

This is a fair hike in class from there but we know he likes the trip and is open to improvement.

He needs to find a lot more but Jim Bolger doesn’t run them in Classics for fun and he’ll hope to nick the decent prizemoney for fifth place.

FRENCH CLAIM 1

BLAME Claim. Lightly races and not disgraced in the Leopardstown Derby Trial last time out in May.

He looks the type to improve for moving up in distance but has a large gap to bridge if he’s going to trouble the main contenders.

GLORY DAZE 1

IN a Daze. Kicked off this season with a maiden win here over 1m2f before a solid second in the Leopardstown Derby Trial.

He was easily outclassed in the Derby at Epsom last time when beaten 24 lengths with no excuses.

His best form has come with cut in the ground and he looks well short of this.

HANNIBAL BARCA 3

HANN can. He only cost £55,000 but was fourth in the Futurity for Brian Meehan last season and looked a hot prospect when scoring on debut for Joseph O’Brien in a Curragh Group 3 last time out in May.

That was over 1m2f but this extra quarter-mile should be ideal and he has the scope for lots of improvement.

LIONEL 3

LIONEL riches. Battled well to score in a Goodwood Listed contest last month and was quietly fancied for the Derby but trainer David Menuisier thought he wasn’t ready for Epsom’s helter-skelter.

He looks capable of much better than we’ve seen so far on just his fourth start and he’s a live each-way contender.

PIZ BADILE 3

NOT Bad. Won the Ballysax at Leopardstown in a battle and had Frankie on board in the Derby when he didn’t handle the tricky Epsom track.

Back on a more conventional surface he’s likely to fare a lot better and should have no problem seeing out this distance. Place player.

WESTOVER 5

WEST best. Won the Sandown Classic Trial but was an unconsidered 25-1 shot for the Derby where he ran an absolute cracker in finishing third.

He was the unluckiest horse in the field as he was full of running but constantly hampered before getting in the clear and powering home.

He should improve for that run and should have no traffic problems on this much more galloping track. Can go very close.

TUESDAY 4

RUBY Tuesday. Rare filly running in a Derby but she was brilliant in winning the Oaks at Epsom last time.

She was tackled by Emily Upjohn late but pulled out more to win fair and square.

This quicker ground is a slight question mark but she has more to come. Connections have shelled out to supplement her for this and she has every chance.

Templegate's tip

WESTOVER can make up for his bad luck at Epsom in the Irish Derby.

He finished third there after meeting horrendous traffic problems up the home straight.

Oaks winning filly Tuesday won her Classic fair and square and looks a massive danger for Ballydoyle.

I think Lionel can come third for the tricast, but watch out for Piz Badile and Hannibal Barca as well.
