Emma Raducanu has failed to show up for her scheduled Wimbledon practice session on Friday afternoon, throwing huge doubt on whether she will compete at the tournament.

Raducanu was meant to have a practice session with Spaniard Garbine Muguruza at 2.15pm on Court 1, but did not appear.

With the British No 1 recovering from a side strain picked up at the Nottingham Open earlier this month, the missed practice could indicate that Raducanu is not fit enough to compete at SW19.

While the reason for Raducanu’s no-show have not been made clear, it has been suggested that she had practised for an hour earlier in the day and consequently cancelled her afternoon session.

But according to journalist Stuart Fraser, Raducanu was spotted ‘looking downbeat’ as she headed away from the courts at the All England Club.

The British No 1 had been working hard to ensure that her side strain had cleared up in time for her first-round Wimbledon tie against Belgian Alison Van Uytvanck.

Raducanu looked to be going through the motions with a smile on her face at practice this morning, warming up with stretches and a medicine ball before taking to the court to hit with a training partner.

The ‘freak’ injury, according to Raducanu at the time, prematurely ended her tournament at the Nottingham Open earlier this month.

Such was the extent of the injury that the British No 1 also skipped appearing at Eastbourne to give herself as much time as possible to be fit enough to walk out at the All England Club at the end of June.

Raducanu, who is the Number 10 seed, beat 28-year-old Van Uytvanck, ranked 61 in the world, the last time they played in Chicago – one month before she won the US Open.
