A HIGH school has been placed on lockdown as police respond to a possible security threat directed at the campus.

The lockdown orders were issued for students and staff at White Knoll High School in Lexington County, South Carolina, on Friday afternoon.

"We’re on the White Knoll High School campus in response to tips about a possible security threat," the Lexington Sheriff's Office tweeted.

The sheriff's office said school officials had "restricted student and staff movement on the campus as a precaution."

Police have not disclosed what the security threat is.

Video footage from the scene showed several police vehicles parked outside the campus as officers were making their way inside the building.
