CHAD Wheeler's girlfriend Alleah Taylor has recalled how the NFL star said "wow, you're still alive" after allegedly beating her.
Ex-Seattle Seahawks lineman Wheeler, 27, was charged with domestic violence last month after allegedly assaulting his girlfriend at a home in Kent, Washington.
His girlfriend has now spoken out, telling CBS about the alleged attack.
Taylor said: "I had touched my face and I had looked down and there was blood on my hand.
"I remember getting up and running to the bathroom. Chad was standing by the bed, by the doorway and he was sipping his smoothie and he was like, 'wow, you're still alive?'"
She said the NFL star – who is 6ft 7in and 315 pounds – acted like the attack was not serious.
"I'm grateful he didn't grab me in that moment. I was able to run to the bathroom. He went back to the living room to continue eating," Taylor said.
"I had texted his dad too and told him that Chad was trying to kill me. Chad's dad called him while he was eating and I was in the bathroom. And he answered and he didn't have any worry at all.
"Chad was like, 'I'm just eating dinner, nothing's going on.' And that terrified me."
Wheeler forced his fingers down his girlfriend’s throat before strangling her unconscious, a disturbing police report claims.
The harrowing details were revealed after the Seattle Seahawks player was arrested on domestic violence charges.
Wheeler was charged with first-degree domestic violence assault, felony domestic violence-unlawful imprisonment, and resisting arrest.
Police who rushed to an apartment in Kent, Washington, following reports of the assault last weekend, found a woman beaten and fearful for her life.
Charging documents seen by CrimeOnline allege the offensive lineman battered his girlfriend unconscious twice and left her for dead.
A report from Kent Police Department alleged that the incident began when Wheeler asked the victim to bow to him and when she did not he grabbed her and threw her on a bed, The Seattle Times reports.
Wheeler claimed the incident was the result of a manic episode.
According to tweets from reporters who were in the courtroom, the former Seahawks player pleaded not guilty to the charges at his arraignment in Kent on Monday.
Wheeler’s girlfriend, who was hospitalised at the time with injuries from the alleged attack, was reportedly present in the courtroom.
According to CrimeOnline reports, Wheeler’s defense team had requested that he be allowed to move to Hawaii, where he had a home.
Wheeler’s girlfriend had suggested he instead move to LA to be with family, explaining that she wanted him to be far away from her, but not in Hawaii.
