A NO DEAL Brexit could see patients die, England’s top doctor yesterday gloomily warned.

Professor Dame Sally Davies said the UK could be hit by a shortage in life-saving medicine and medical equipment.

Her dire warning came a day after she called for eating and drinking to be banned on buses and trains to tackle obesity.

Issuing yet another scary warning about the nation’s health, the Chief Medical Officer said Brits could die if no Brexit deal is done.

She told the BBC Radio 4 Today Programme: “The health service and everyone has worked very hard to prepare.

“But I say what I’ve said before, that we cannot guarantee that there will not be shortages not only in medicines but technology and gadgets and things.

“And there may be deaths, we can’t guarantee there won’t.”

Ministers have embarked on a massive programme to make sure medical equipment and drugs can easily get into Britain if there is a No Deal Brexit.

A dedicated support unit is being set up to ensure the supplies of medicines are not disrupted.

Drugs and equipment have been stockpiled, and imports of them will go to the front of the border queue if there is a No Deal.
