FOR the first time since 1953, the Eurovision Song Contest was cancelled as a result of the outbreak of the coronavirus, which has gripped Europe with thousands of people infected.

But fans who are disappointed about missing out on the annual song competition can take consolation in BBC screening a Eurovision special called Come Together.

When is Eurovision: Come Together on TV?

The Eurovision special will air on Saturday May 16.

This is the same day Eurovision was set to be broadcast this year.

The special will air on BBC One.

What is Eurovision: Come Together about?

The show will serve as 'compensation' for fans who were looking forward to this year's cancelled song contest.

Come Together will present some of the most memorable and iconic past performances which have kept fans entertained throughout the years.

Fans have already begun speculating on some of the legendary performances which will be aired by the BBC, with many guessing ABBA's 1974 showing of Waterloo will be amongst those shown.

The BBC have not confirmed which performances in the contest's 64 years will be broadcast.

The UK's 2020 hopeful James Newman will perform his song on the show.

Other acts from around the continent are expected to be shown by way of clips.

The European Broadcasting Union, who are responsible for putting on the song contest each year have also said they plan on broadcasting a program to honour artists who will not be able to perform due to the cancellation of the event.

The EBU have made clear that the program will not be a competition but have not specifically outlined the form in which the program will take.

Who Will host Eurovision: Come Together?

The BBC have confirmed that Graham Norton will present the special.

With the government's advice on the coronavirus in place, it is currently unclear whether there will be an in studio presentation or whether Graham will offer voice over commentary.

Graham, 56, has been synonymous with the Eurovision Song Contest as he has provided commentary for many years.
