Succession: Episode 4 preview shared by HBO Max

*Warning: Succession season 4, episode 5 spoilers ahead*

We’re at the halfway point in the final season of Succession and, even with Logan’s death still on everyone’s mind, business waits for no man – and the Roy siblings have headed to Norway.

In the latest episode, titled Kill List, Shiv (played by Sarah Snook), Kendall (Jeremy Strong) and Roman (Kieran Culkin) fly off with the WayStar Royco bigwigs in order to finally close on a deal with GoJo.

It seems the enigmatic and strange Lukas Matsson (Alexander Skarsgard) has little sympathy for their grief, and instead wants to use the moment to pounce on the trio while they’re vulnerable.

But what he didn’t count on was Shiv getting her head in the game – freshly spurred on by her brothers usurping her to claim a co-CEO title at the company without her.

In fact, when the opportunity arises, Shiv takes a quiet moment with Matsson to get some leverage on him.

In a bonding moment, a pregnant Shiv fakes taking drugs and drinking with Matsson, who proceeds to spill some of his weird secrets to her.

Most notably, the fact he has been sending ‘bricks’ of his own blood to Ebba, the head of communications at GoJo, in what he believes to be a somewhat amorous gesture.

It seems when you’re a billionaire, you go several steps beyond flowers and the appropriate.

Having spent years as a political strategist before being brought into the company fold, it’s clearly not gone unnoticed by Shiv how handy this information could be.

Allowing him to talk, she even helps set him up with associates of hers who could help him out of the mess should the information ever come to light to the public.

When he details plans to deny it, she reminds him: “Denying it is difficult, given that she has so much of your blood”.

By the end of their talk, Matsson – who has made no secret of wanting to buy Waystar and break it down into parts – even compares her to her father, something that is exactly what she wants to hear.

So while Kendall makes grand gestures that get him nowhere with Mattson, and Roman almost explodes the megabucks deal with Matsson completely, it’s a deal with Shiv that seems to clinch them the actual win.

At the end of the episode, the business team at Waystar become privy to Mattson’s deal – a staggering $192million.

But this comes with a catch, mainly a kill list of all the people who provisionally could lose their job as a result of Matsson’s planned streamlining.

Longtime associates Hugo, Frank, and Karl are out, but Karolina, Gerri and Tom are still in the fold, which cuts short their celebrations.

However, it seems Shiv has more of a connection with Matsson than may currently appear, with the Scandanavian billionaire calling her and requesting a photo of her bewildered-looking brothers.

Giggling at the moment together, it’s clear they are now in cahoots – and it’s sparked fresh thoughts that they could even become a romantic business power couple.

“Ohhhh Shiv is so going to do bad things to Mattson,” @phantom1969 wrote on Twitter.

“I honestly wouldn’t be mad if something happened between Shiv and Lukas Mattson,” added @giselleb1234.

User @nicejanice19 agreed and said: “Mattson & Shiv would be a perfect power couple. The sexual tension is so f***ing strong.”

While @mjewrites wrote: “yeah something gonna go down between Shiv and Mattson and I am 100% seated.”

However, is this a new, mutual venture, or is someone getting played?

Guess we’ll find out soon enough…

Succession airs Sundays on HBO in the US and Mondays on Sky and NOW in the UK.
