Mark Heyes made an interesting revelation while discussing fashion on Lorraine on Thursday.

The style and beauty expert explained to the Scottish host, 62, that he was convinced that Kate Middleton had paid a number of tributes to Princess Diana through fashion.

During the chat, he shared proof of The Duchess of Cambridge wearing very similar attire to the late Princess of Wales.

There seemed to be no doubt about it that Prince William's wife had certainly opted for the same vibrant colours and pattern – having previously stepped out wearing a red dog-tooth overcoat, similar to one her late mother-in-law wore.

Speaking to Lorraine, Mark explained that he was convinced Kate had often "paid homage" and channelled her children's grandmother with her own outfits.

Even the TV star and veteran presenter gasped as an image flashed up on the screen, showing both Royal's donning incredibly similar attire.

The fashion expert was more than certain that this was no coincidence.

He said: "The other thing I see Kate doing, is that she almost pays homage to Princess Diana and sometimes I wonder if this is accidental at all?

"But I actually don't think it is, I think it is almost curated because you've seen it a few times and think it's a lovely way to pay respect as well to you know her children's grandmother."

Lorraine added "gosh look at that" as the side-by-side pictures featured on the wall behind her.

The fashion specialist went on: "I love that and I think that is a massive influence but I think what really makes her one the most iconic style icons of our time, is the influence that she has had with that amazing silhouette she's got with the long sleeves and the midi-dress."

Mark had joined Lorraine of the sofa to glance back at a number of Kate's statement ensembles as the Duchess of Cambridge prepares to mark her 40th birthday – this coming Sunday (9th January).

According to reports, Kate has already scaled back her huge plans for her four decade celebration with "just close family and friends" in attendance as Covid-19 fears rage on.

A source told the Mail on Sunday: "There are likely to be low-key celebrations for the Duchess.

"She didn’t want anything flashy anyway – that's not exactly her thing – but particularly given the current climate anything is likely to be scaled down."

Lorraine airs weekdays on ITV at 9am.
