Coronation Street star Will Mellor has had quite the interesting life.

The 45-year-old actor is currently chilling the spines of Corrie viewers nationwide as drug lord Harvey Gaskell.

He joined the ITV soap in March 2021 and swiftly became the lynchpin in multiple storylines, with Will using his years of acting experience to portray the menacing role.

Will began his acting career as a teenager, securing his first big break when he landed the part of Jambo Bolton in Hollyoaks in 1995.

In 2001, he was cast as both receptionist Jack Vincent in Casualty and as Gaz in Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps.

He has also appeared in EastEnders, Line of Duty, Broadchurch and No Offence, with his personal life drama being just as eclectic.

Ghosted by Sheridan Smith

Will starred in Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps alongside Sheridan Smith.

The 40-year-old actress appeared as Janet/Michelle in the classic British sitcom and in October last year, Will revealed that Sheridan hadn't responded to his messages or calls "for four years".

He also confirmed that he didn't know why he had been effectively ghosted by his former co-star.

Will told Daily Star: "I haven't spoken to Sheridan for four years – I have tried to message and call her but nothing.

"I had a 40th birthday party that she was invited to but we haven't spoken.

"There has not been a row, no fall-out… I honestly couldn't tell you why.

"She is doing very well, her career is smashing it and she has a kid now, she has other responsibilities.

"We were very, very close at one point and you just drift apart – but I wish her well."

Dad dying

In April 2020, Will confirmed the unfortunate news that his father had passed away.

The actor posted a video of himself making the sad announcement to Twitter, while also confirming that his dad's death wasn't suspected to be related to coronavirus.

Will captioned the emotional video, "worst week of my life".

He said: "My dad passed away three days ago.

"There's a lot of people out there, I haven't got their number [so] I can't let them know.

"They've probably met my dad, I've been everywhere with him, we went everywhere together. That's how close we were.

"It's just the hardest time. It's horrendous. What do you do when you lose your hero?"

Will later asked the people also saddened by the news to "remember the good times".

Additionally, he pledged to "get through" his grief after the heartbreaking loss.

Jeremy Clarkson threat

Last December, Will revealed he was once epically snubbed by former Top Gear presenter, Jeremy Clarkson.

Speaking on the Two Pints with Will & Ralf podcast, the Corrie star recounted his first and only meeting with the Diddly Squat Farm Shop owner, which didn't go smoothly.

Indeed, Will said Jezza turned his back on him as he tried to heap praise on the Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? host.

Will said of The Grand Tour presenter: "He was a tw*t to me.

“He didn’t like me at all. He is pompous and he does say things that offend people. I said, 'Hiya, I just wanted to say I love Top Gear and I saw the Range Rover on it and because of that show I got the car.'

"He went, 'what are you, a footballer?' and he turned around."

Of his since-regretted reaction, Will added: “I just walked away.

“Really, I just should have caved every f***ing rib he had in him.

"I was in shock. I still looked up to him. I'm not rude to anyone like that."

Abuse in streets

Corrie's Harvey is set to face off with Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) this week.

Speaking ahead of his debut on the ITV soap earlier this year, Will shared his belief that his other acting roles were the only thing preventing viewers 'hurling abuse in the street' due to his "really horrible" character.

He said: "[Harvey is] a horrible person, good to play.

"I'm just glad that people have seen me play other things, because if this was the first thing they'd seen me do they would believe it, they would hate me, people would hurl abuse in the street.

"Some people really believe it so I'm glad that hopefully people have seen me in other things and understand that it's not real, because the character in Coronation Street is really horrible."
