The truth comes out finally in Coronation Street this week when Stu Carpenter gets an answer to the question that's plagued him all of his life: Who really killed Charlie Walters?
The young women was killed 27 years ago and Stu was convicted of the crime but has always maintained he didn't do it, though he was having an affair with her at the time.
Alya (Sair Khan) and Zeedan (Qasim Akhtar) enlist the help of lawyer Dee-Dee (Channique Sterling-Brown) and this week a small piece of evidence that proves his innocence is uncovered.
Stu's past has always been a mystery, but as Dee-Dee and Alya continue their investigation, Stu is busy getting to know Bridget (Beth Vyse) and young Eliza.
In the pub, Yasmeen (Shelley King) works out that his formerly estranged daughter Bridget and Eliza both want to continue seeing Stu, but it’s Lucy (Lynda Rooke) who is against it.
Yasmeen invites Bridget and Eliza round for brunch, keeping the arrangement a secret from Lucy.
As they try to enjoy their food, Eliza starts asking Stu about his life in prison and it becomes all too much for Bridget so she heads out into the garden for some air.
Stu follows her to comfort her and talks about how angry he was at being in jail for something he didn’t do but is shocked by what she reveals.
Speaking exclusively to OK! at the 2022 British Soap Awards in July, Bill said of his character becoming a pivotal part of the cobbles: "Yeah and very quickly! As you know, I started off homeless, met Millie [Gibson, who plays Kelly], and we've got a great rapport."
Teasing what's next for his character, Bill said: "It's going to be very big because what's going to be revealed is all about my past and it's a big past… not just a little past, can't say too much more than that but it's major implications for everyone."
