MANCHESTER UNITED are rigorously preparing for Monday's derby with Liverpool after a disastrous start to the campaign.

United host their rivals at Old Trafford and are desperately looking for their first points of the season after a 2-1 loss to Brighton at home and a 4-0 thrashing at Brentford.

The Red Devils seemed to be in a good mood at Carrington today as Marcus Rashford, Christian Eriksen and captain Harry Maguire shared a chuckle during their warm-up jog.

But star man Cristiano Ronaldo didn't crack a smile ahead of the upcoming crunch clash with the Reds.

It is not yet known what Erik ten Hag's plans are for Ronaldo in the derby as the club legend's future is still uncertain.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner informed club chiefs that he wishes to leave in order to play in the Champions League.

But the Red Devils are not keen to offload him and the star forward doesn't seem to have a lot of suitors.

However, the Portugal captain has been training with the rest of the team throughout the entire month.

Ronaldo was also present on Sunday when Ten Hag ordered his players back to Carrington for an extra session a day after they were demolished by Brentford.

The Dutch tactician ordered them to run 13.8 kilometres (8.5 miles), which was the difference in distance covered by the Bees in their Premier League thrashing.
