RALF RANGNICK is favourite to be Manchester United manager at the beginning of next season, according to Betfair.

Mauricio Pochettino was previously the clear frontrunner but his odds have drifted from 4/6 to 21/10 over the several days.

United's original plan when relieving Ole Gunnar Solskjaer of his duties was for Rangnick to lead the side for the remainder of the 2021-22 campaign.

The German would then move into a consultancy role at Old Trafford with a new boss taking the reins.

But that's no longer a given with the 63-year-old now 7/5 favourite to extend his stay and lead United into the 2022-23 season with Betfair.

Rangnick also revealed he could remain in charge beyond the summer at his unveiling.

He said: "I mean, the people with whom I have spoken so far have been very clear that we’re talking about a six-and-a-half-month role as a manager currently.

"Maybe if they ask my opinion and everything goes well and we develop the team.

"I might even make the same recommendation to the board that I did at Leipzig twice, when I recommended it might be a good idea to keep working with me for one year.

"But this is all hypothetical."

Rangnick has started his reign by collecting 10 points from a possible 12 with wins over Crystal Palace, Norwich and Burnley.

Elsewhere Pochettino has remained coy on the situation, refusing to confirm or deny his interest in a return to the Premier League.

Recently asked about his future, Poch said: "We are always focused on the football – our games and our work. It is not us, nor the club, who generate these situations. It does not affect us.

"We are calm and humble. It is not us creating these rumours."

The bookies do, however, think other candidates are possible with Brendan Rodgers and Wayne Rooney both seeing significant price reductions.

Leicester boss Rodgers was available at 8/1 but now sits third in the betting market at 11/2.

Club legend Rooney – who has impressed with limited resources and a huge points deduction at Derby – has been driven in from 33/1 to 22/1 for the top position.
