BETFAIR Hurdle favourite Metier will only run next Saturday if he pleases Harry Fry in a vital gallop tomorrow morning.

The unbeaten five-year-old is the 6-1 jolly with the big-race sponsors having bolted up in last month's Tolworth Hurdle.

The exciting youngster ploughed through the Sandown mud to win by a jaw-dropping 12 lengths that day.

Fry had been reluctant to run the horse, who is also second favourite for the Supreme, under a big weight before the Cheltenham Festival.

But with plenty of rain around and the ground likely to be in his favour, Fry is warming to the idea of racing for £125k at Newbury.

He told Sun Racing: "It all hinges on how he works on Saturday morning.

"It will be his final serious piece of work before next weekend.

"If all goes to plan and he comes through his gallop OK then there is every chance he will run.

"We've always thought he is the perfect horse for a race like the Betfair.

"But we didn't help his mark by winning the Tolworth by 12 lengths!

"He loves soft ground and if he is to be a serious player at Cheltenham he would need to run very well in a race like that.

"Everything has been fine with him since Sandown so we will make our decision tomorrow."
