Paul Gascoigne has been involved in a quad bike crash while on holiday in Benidorm.

The 52-year-old England football ace collided with a boulder and "backflipped" over the bike.

He was lucky to escape unscathed in the terrifying incident, but is nursing a broken thumb and some scrapes.

He told Spanish newspaper Olive Press: “I went a bit crazy going through some trees on a quad bike, hit a boulder and backflipped over the quad.

“I was cut to bits and broke my thumb – it’s well out. Look at it.”

The ex-Tottenham legend is now back to ‘feeling great’ a week after the crash.

It comes as Gazza has been soaking up the Spanish sun on the trip organised by his manager Shane Whitfield.

He has been sharing a number of holidays snaps of his adventures, including swimming naked, riding a jet-ski and playing golf.

The recovering alcoholic has also revealed the holiday is booze-free and he is enjoying himself without it.

“I haven’t come here to drink,” he added to the newspaper.

“I can drink in my own house if I want to, I don’t have to come to Benidorm to do that.”

But he found himself in hot water last week when footage emerged of the former Rangers midfielder in a bar dedicated to the Scottish club singing a song that included the line: "F*** the Pope and the IRA."

He has since insisted he is not "anti-Pope" and wears a cross around his neck.

And it's not the only drama for Gazza recently, as he was also caught up in a Twitter spat with Snoop Dogg.

Rap icon Snoop came under fierce criticism online when using pictures on  Instagram  of Gascoigne taken 27 years apart to highlight the dangers of excessive drinking.

In the same post, the 47-year-old posted two snaps of himself in an effort to compare what he called 'alcohol abuse' to 'marijuana abuse'.
