A succulent lemon drizzle cake possibly in line for country show glory was guzzled down by a hungry Labrador.

The baked good was placed on the judges' table Northumberland's Warkworth Show ready for inspection when Violet the dog clocked the cake.

While the show's organisers were distracted the chocolate lab took her chance, sinking her teeth into the baked treat.

Violet, who is owned by Warkworth's former chairman Chris Howliston, might even have got away with the crime were it not for the muddy paw prints left near the remains of the sugary treat.

Despite the dog's best attempts, enough of the dessert was left for the judges to have their say.

They ruled it unworthy of a prize.
