    Don't feel pressured to buy

Experts urged Brits not to feel pressured into buying on Black Friday.

You shouldn't buy something just because it's on sale, otherwise you could find yourself going over budget.

Recent research has found that shoppers overspend by as much as £275.02 on Black Friday than if they were shopping at other times of the year.

Remember, something is only a saving if you were planning on buying it anyway.

You should also shop around to find the best price, as the first deal you land on might not be the cheapest that same item is going for elsewhere.

Nine in ten Black Friday ‘deals’ were same price BEFORE they launched

NINE in 10 Black Friday 'deals' from shops are cheaper or the same price before the sales day, a probe shows.

Consumer group Which? found 187 of 201 products sold by Currys, Amazon, Argos, John Lewis, AO.com and Richer Sounds last year cost the same or more on Black Friday than they did the months before.

Popular buys including TVs, speakers, washing machines, cookers and vacuums – advertised as "discounted" – were all no cheaper on the big sales day, which happens again this Friday.

Black Friday shopper warning after £15.4m scammed out of customers last year

Scam online shopping "bargains" that turned out to be too good to be true cost shoppers £15.4 million over Christmas last year, according to police.

Action Fraud, the national reporting centre for fraud and cyber crime, received reports relating to 28,049 shoppers conned out of their money when shopping online over the Christmas period last year – an increase of almost two-thirds (61%) compared with a year earlier.

Ahead of Black Friday (November 26), Action Fraud is warning people to take extra care when shopping online.

Pauline Smith, director of Action Fraud, said: "If you think you have found a bargain that is too good to be true, it probably is. Stop and think before making a purchase, as it could protect you and your money.

"Always shop with official retailers and follow our simple advice to enjoy shopping online safely and ensure you are not left empty-handed this Christmas."

Explained: How Black Friday got its name

Black Friday originally started the day before Thanksgiving in America and is regarded as the beginning of the Christmas shopping season.

Recently, stores have stayed open for longer or opened early morning to cope with the demand.

Each year, big retailers like Amazon, Argos and Morrisons use Black Friday to give slash prices just before the holiday season begins.

Majority of retailers will not slash prices in run-up to Xmas

Bira, which works with more than 6,000 independent businesses, said the majority of members will not slash prices in the run-up to Christmas.

Andrew Goodacre, chief executive of Bira, said: "The main reasons for them not wanting to take part in this is because they either don't agree with this idea, there are higher prices, and there is also insufficient volume to make the large discounting work.

"They also need to preserve their margins. This, coupled with many of our independents experiencing supply chain issues, this has proved to be a real challenge."

However, he added that Bira "remains concerned" about the rising costs and supply pressures making it difficult for independent retailers to meet demand ahead of the festive trading period.

Does Ninja Kitchen take part in Cyber Monday?

Cyber Monday is only a week away, falling on November 29th. It falls on the other side of November's final weekend to Black Friday, and often sees the best deals of the sales period.

However, shoppers who hold out until Cyber Monday also run the risk of the products they want running out of stock.

We'd expect the deals on Ninja's website to remain live until Cyber Monday, but that's not confirmed.

It has also pointed out that the prices of some products like the exclusive blue multicooker will not fall lower during Black Friday weekend.

Explained: Amazon Ninja Foodi Black Friday Deals

More than 85% of independent retailers are BOYCOTTING Black Friday

About 85% of independent retailers will not take part in Black Friday, according to new figures.

The British Independent Retailers Association (Bira) said its latest survey of members showed the majority will not be slashing their prices for Friday November 26.

The shopping day, which started in the US as a key Friday for Christmas shopping following Thanksgiving, is often a pivotal time for online retailers such as Amazon.

However, many under-pressure retailers have boycotted it in recent years.

It comes amid a significant reduction in discounting among retailers keen to support their profit margins, as they recover from the heavy toll of the pandemic and enforced closures.

Retailers have also weathered supply disruption and soaring costs in recent months.

Nine in 10 deals same or cheaper beforehand says Which?

Nine in 10 Black Friday "deals" are the same price or cheaper in the six months beforehand, a Which? investigation has found.

The consumer group analysed 201 of last year's Black Friday deals at six major retailers – Amazon, AO, Argos, Currys, John Lewis and Richer Sounds – looking at their prices every day during the six months before and after Black Friday as well as on the day itself.

Around 92% of products (184), which included popular items such as washing machines, soundbars and TVs, were the same price or cheaper in the six months before Black Friday.

In some cases, shoppers may be better off biding their time and seeing if the price of a product falls further.

During the six months after Black Friday, nearly all (98.5%) of the products Which? looked at were cheaper or the same price at some point.

With Black Friday, November 26, fast approaching, Which? said shoppers should do some research to help them hunt down the deals that really are a bargain.
