Matthew McConaughey has shared another wild tale – this time about how being too good looking meant he missed out on $50,000 (£38,000) compensation from a skincare brand.

Taking part in First We Feast’s Hot Ones challenge, Matthew recalled the time he almost netted the major pay-out when a skin cream he was using made him break out in terrible acne.

He explained: ‘My mum starts peddling this stuff called Oil of Mink, it’s this door to door sales thing of this oil you put all over your face to bring out the impurities and they’ll be gone forever and you’ll have beautiful glowing skin for the rest of your life.

‘I do it for three weeks straight and I get full-blown acne. Unrecognisably swollen head. I go to the dermatologist and he’s like “What are you putting on your face?!”

‘I go “here’s this Oil of Mink” and he goes “Nooo! You’re 15 years old man, it’s clogging your pores, this is for people 40 years and older!”’

After hearing this, Matthew’s dad (who Matthew also recently revealed accurately predicted he would die during sex) saw an opportunity to make some money and decided to sue the company.

After consulting with a lawyer, who told the family they could get around $35,000-$50,000 for the ‘emotional distress’, confidence issues and trouble with girls that Matthew had suffered as a result of the cream, they decided to take it to court.

Matthew explained: ‘Well, as you know, lawsuits take a while. So a year and a half go by and I’m now in the deposition and the defence attorney is talking to me.

‘It starts off and he goes: “This must have been so emotionally distressing for you, Matthew”. And I am sitting there going Jeez he’s given me a softball, I’m going to knock this out of the park, I mean yes it was, while I’m sitting there going ker-ching, ker-ching.’

However, it soon took a turn when the lawyer pulled out some pretty damning evidence that Matthew’s life and looks were far from ruined by the cream.

‘All of a sudden he pulls out from the table this yearbook, slides it over in front of me, turns it around, opens it up and it was a picture of me from that year, my senior year and I had won Most Handsome.

‘My dad was like “Gosh damn you buddy, we were gonna make $50,000 dollars and you’ve got to go off and win Most Handsome. Come on, man!”

‘It was great. So yeah, we lost. We’re not very good at picking the right litigations in our family.’
