‌The mum of Love Island star Antigoni Buxton said she refused to tell the former contestant's dad she was starring on the ITV show.

‌Tonia Buxton revealed this as she appeared on GB News today, and admitted to host Bev Turner the whole family was involved in making the decision with Antigoni, 26, to join the show, after ITV approached her.

Antigoni appeared on Love Island's latest series this summer as she entered as a bombshell.

Mum Tonia, 54, said of the experience: “It was a huge decision as a family…we didn't tell her dad; we wouldn't tell anyone. We just thought okay, let's do this and see how we go.

“We had a spotlight put on us when Antigoni was on Love Island. My husband loved it because he was the hot dad. But my boys did not like it at all. But he was the hot daddy, he loved it.

“I know my child and I know the way she's brought up and what she's like. She was a good girl, because she is a good girl."

‌She added: “We decided together that she should do it. You know, she's a musician, if she'd found love there, if someone gorgeous had walked in for her, that would be great, but it didn’t. What it did give her is a platform for her music.”‌

During Antigoni's time on Love Island, her mum hit out at Love Island over her daughter's lack of airtime on the popular ITV2 dating show.

The Saturday Kitchen chef took to Instagram Stories to have a go at the producers for not showing her daughter as much as other Islanders during some of the episodes.

Tonia filmed herself soaking in her sauna after having a workout with her husband Paul as she passionately ranted about Antigoni’s lack of airtime to followers.

“So I've just been trained by Paul and now we're sitting in the sauna listening to opera,” the mum-of-three said in the video at the time.

She continued: "Hoping that my daughter Antigoni will get some more airtime on Love Island because we miss her and we don't see her."

Later, Tonia switched up to having a freezing ice bath as she continued slamming the ITV series for not showing Antigoni.

“So my daughter is in Love Island her name is Antigoni and I am very proud of her, the only thing that is making me really quite sad is that I'm not seeing enough of her and we miss her so much,” the TV cook said.

She went on: "Imagine you're in a family where you speak to each other ten times a day and we haven't spoken for three weeks, it's hard.

"So when she comes out and she looks at this, I want her to know that we miss her and we love her.”

Appearing unfazed as she went on bathing in chilly temperatures, Tonia added: "So it was lovely to see a little bit more of Antigoni last night.

"You can tell that she is just fun, why are they not showing more of her?"
