Emmerdale’s Paige Sandhu has opened up about living with anxiety and struggling early during her career.
Paige, who plays Meena Jutla in the ITV soap, has said how she became a very anxious person when she left drama school.
‘I wasn’t getting any jobs and I was struggling’, the actress told The Mirror.
‘The anxiety took the form of insomnia. Life was hard and a struggle.’
Paige explained that during the difficult time, she started using a type of therapy called Emotional Freedom Technique.
EFT is a treatment for emotional distress. People use this technique and believe tapping the body can create a balance in your energy system. In Paige’s case or those with anxiety, EFT would be used to help anxious feelings.
‘I read a couple of books on it and found it really helpful. I’d tap on the train or bus on the way to auditions. People would give me the weirdest looks.
Just syncing my breath with the movement of my body and getting away from my thoughts can be really useful.’
Recently, Paige appeared on ITV’s Lorraine to discuss her character Meena, who murdered Liam’s (Jonny McPherson) daughter Leanna.
When asked if Meena’s actions will catch up to her, Paige replied: ‘I hope that she gets her comeuppance because I think that would be enjoyable for the audience and there needs to be a sense of closure because she’s got away with so much and will continue to for a while.
‘Before that happens, I just really want her to step up to the next level, whatever that may be.’
