PRINCE Harry launched his charity Travalyst over two years ago to promote sustainable travel.

The Duke of Sussex's appearance in a comedy skit to promote the company was mocked on Good Morning Britain but what is Travalyst all about?

What is Prince Harry's Travalyst charity?

Prince Harry has long been a patron of many charities and, like his brother, has spoken out about climate change fears.

In September 2019, he took this one step further and launched Travalyst – a not-for-profit company focused on environmentally friendly travel.

Partners of Travalyst include big names such as Google, Expedia, Booking.com, Tripadvisor, Visa, and Skyscanner.

According to the Travalyst website, the charity is a "bold global initiative … with the ambition to change the impact of travel, for good".

The site reads: "We believe tourism can, and must, play a key role in achieving a sustainable future for our world; so we’re convening the key players, and catalysing the necessary action, to change the impact of travel, for good.

"We are committed to being a driving force that redefines what it means to travel, helping everyone explore our world in a way that protects both people and places, and secures a positive future for destinations and local communities for generations to come."

In July 2020 the charity was reported by Republic, a campaign group for an elected head of state, after the alleged misuse of nearly £300,000.

William and Kate’s Royal Foundation made two grants totalling nearly £290,000 to Harry and Meghan’s non-profit organisation Sussex Royal in 2019.

Later, £145,000 of this was paid to Travalyst, a private company in which Harry owns 75 per cent of the shares.

The Charity Commission looked into the alleged misuse of funds but found that the transfer was in line with the rules.

Ina statement released by a friend of the Sussexes, they called the allegations "baseless" and said the findings "confirmed what we knew from the start".

Republic apologised for the accusation and the public damage the "untrue claims" may have caused.

What is sustainable tourism?

Sustainable tourism is visiting a country for a holiday and making a positive impact on the society, environment and economy.

It can be done in a number way including purchasing directly from the locals so they can build up and support their own community or by visiting conservation sites that embrace the areas of natural diversity and not zoos or circuses.

It does not aim to stop tourism but instead adapt it to protect the natural environments, wildlife and resources.

What other charities are Harry and Meghan involved in?

While still official members of the Royal Family, Prince Harry and Meghan led their charity, SussexRoyal.

But when they left their titles behind, their charity was closed down and assets were moved from Sussex Royal to Travalyst.

A Newsweek source said: "Travalyst is now operating as an independent non-profit based in the UK, and all assets from SussexRoyal will transfer over.

"The travel and tourism sector has been one of the hardest hit by the Covid pandemic, with communities and people's livelihoods heavily impacted around the world."

"The Travalyst partnership is committed to playing an active role in helping communities that rely on tourism rebuild and recover in ways that support their long-term sustainability and resilience.

"We will have more to announce on this in the coming weeks and months."

Harry and Meghan founded their Archewell non-profit organisation in the US in 2020.

The company focus their efforts on technology and media advancements, as well as donating to campaigns for equality.

In 2022, they have donated to charities in support of the Ukrainian people such as Project Healthy Minds and HIAS as well as media platforms like The Kyiv Independent.
