Two people are in custody after a stabbing during a Labor Day skirmish at a Jersey Shore beach.
A fight broke out between two groups of people on Point Pleasant Beach — during which at least one person pulled out a knife, stabbing two others, WABC reported.
“I saw a man who was sitting on a blanket,” one eyewitness told the outlet. “He was hunched over and there were people yelling and screaming for help.”
When authorities arrived, two men were found with stab wounds and rushed to Jersey Shore Medical Center, Point Pleasant Beach Police Chief Joseph Michigan said in a statement.
Their conditions are unknown, though both men were alert when they were carried off the beach, the station reported.
Two men are in custody at the Point Pleasant Beach Police Department and the investigation is ongoing, Michigan said.
Another person told WABC that such violence is unacceptable at a family beach.
“People come down from all over,” he said. “There should not be these [types] of things going on between families.”
