A South African free climber scales an almost sheer cliff with no safety equipment.

Matt Bush can be seen traversing the Rocklands cliffs in Cederberg, South Africa.

In the footage, captured by an onlooker, Mr Bush can be seen swinging one-handed from the steep rock face.

The video shows him on the steep, orange-tinged cliff under a bright-blue sky.

As he holds on with one hand, he reaches down into a small bag around his waist which holds chalk to help his grip.

He then pulls himself using only his arms before letting go with one hand again.

The climber nimbly continues to scale the cliff, using his legs this time, as he reaches dizzying heights.

Bouldering is rock climbing without any safety aids, such as ropes, and is usually restricted to only eight metres.

Visitors to the Rocklands can scale the impressive rocks on the site before settling in for the night at one of two camp sites.

Some climbing areas are developed on farms that can charge a small fee.

Others are free to use but a ‘crash pad’ – a soft mat underneath the climber – and a spotter – someone who can help a climber during a fall – are essential.
