Once the feline made its way onto the pitch, referee Clay Martin was forced to stop the game between for several minutes as the cat evaded capture.

Footage of the incident showed the cat casually strolling around the field before it picked up the pace.

Soon it sped-up and dodged state troopers trying to stop the animal's run, much to the crowd's delight.

And the cat runs into the end zone, that is a touchdown.

The animal even managed to get passed the goal line, which led to some amusing commentary.

CHEERS, APPLAUSE & STANDING OVATIONS

Another commentator mocked that the cat had "spent more time in the MetLife end zone than the Jets," in a jab the Giant's local rivals.

Later, as the animal left the field of it's own accord, it received cheers, applause and a standing ovation from some.

The game ended with a victory for the Cowboys who won 37-18.

It has since been revealed that the cat in question is likely one of the "resident stray cats at METLife" stadium, Madelyn Burke reported.

Building security told her: "They usually come out after the game, people feed them, etc.

"They live in the bleachers, I’m told this one must have gotten startled out by fan noise."

Since the pitch invasion METLife Stadium released a statement that the cat "ran off the field and disappeared under a seating section."

They added: "Once we locate and safely capture the cat, we will take it to a veterinarian for examination”
