Juan Vicente came home from work to find his girlfriend lying in bed with a large knife wound down the left side of her neck, according to local media.

The Romanian woman, who had an eight-year-old daughter, had reportedly previously worked as a prostitute, but it was not known if this was linked to her murder.

The 36-year-old lived in the town of Xativa, a province of Valencia, and was expecting Vicente’s child at the time of her death, according to Spanish newspaper El Pais.

City Council of Xativa condemned the killing and the town Mayor declared a day of mourning for the murder victim.

A minute’s silence was held in the town and the mayor, Roger Cerda, said women who suffered violence deserved justice, according to Levante-EMV.

He told a crowd outside the town hall: ‘Ours is a quiet city full of women who deserve the guarantee of continuing with their lives life in equality and fullness, in exercise of their rights.’

In April Raducanu shared an ultrasound image of her unborn child on Facebook.
