BORIS Johnson will go on a whistle-stop tour of the UK today as the campaign turns to the economy.

The PM will visit Northern England, Scotland and Northern Ireland as the Chancellor Sajid Javid and Shadow Chancellor John McDonnell battle it out over who is best to run the country's finances – and who will control the money in your pocket.

It comes just hours after the huge news that Labour's Tom Watson is quitting politics – as an MP and the party's deputy leader.

  • NO PLASTIC HERE!

Remember at last month's party conference where Boris was handed a coffee by an aide in a single-use plastic cup, only to have it nicked off him by another aide immediately?

“No disposable cups!” The whole thing went viral.

Luckily Boris has his own Conservatives branded glass one for the campaign trail today.

  • DOUBLE BLOW

Labour are trying to hit back this morning after the news of Ian Austin and Tom Watson's departure.

But it'll be Austin's words which will have more impact.

Rebecca Long Bailey tells the BBC: Voting for Boris Johnson if you’re a Labour voter and you want to protect your community, that’s absolutely absurd. Jeremy is a patriot as we all are within the Labour party, we are very proud of our country. It's wrong for him to suggest that.”

  • JEZZA'S TRIBUTE

Last night Jeremy Corbyn gave a tribute to his deputy, which, to be honest, was a little like warn.

He said in his letter: “I've always enjoyed our very convivial chats about many things, including cycling, exercise and horticulture.

“I hope the horseradish plants I gave you thrive.”

    Interesting.

  • BONG BONG!

Big Ben will be reconnected today so that it can be rung on Remembrance Sunday, after having been silent for almost a year.

Due to the period of inactivity since New Year's Eve 2018, Big Ben must be re-connected in advance in order to ensure that it will chime at exactly 11.00 on Sunday.

To make sure everything works, Parliament's Clock Mechanics will be testing the bell this week.

Thursday will be a full dress rehearsal for the Remembrance Day Ceremony and the bell will be struck on the hour. Elizabeth Tower, Westminster.

Big Ben – Why was the tower in London silenced, how long will the scaffolding be up for and when was the last bong?

  • MESSAGE TO THE PEOPLE

The Jewish Chronicle has a striking front page today addressed to all British voters, urging them not to vote Labour.

It concludes: “We believe that the overwhelming majority of British people abhor racism.

“We ask only that, when you cast your vote, you act on that.”
