A BUILDER has died in jail days before he was due to go on trial accused of murdering his "beautiful and kind" girlfriend.

Terence Papworth, 45, was charged with the murder of mum-of-one Amy-Leanne Stringfellow during lockdown.

The 26-year-old former soldier was discovered at her lover's home in Doncaster on June 5 with serious injuries.

Sadly she couldn't be saved and was declared dead at the scene.

The Sun Online can reveal Papworth was found dead in his cell at HMP Leeds yesterday.

He had recently appeared in court via video link for a case management hearing and was due to stand trial on November 30.

The Ministry of Justice said: "Terence Papworth died in HMP Leeds on 22 November.

"The Prisons and Probation Ombudsman has been informed.”

No details of his death have been released.

LOCKDOWN 'MURDER'

Papworth and Amy, who has a young daughter, had been in a relationship since last October but they had not moved in together.

She had travelled the four miles from her home in Doncaster to see Papworth during lockdown.

After her death, South Yorkshire Police referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) over prior contact they had with Amy.

Private Amy enlisted in the Army in 2010 and completed assignments with 3rd Battalion the Rifles 3 RIFLES in Edinburgh and Chilwell.

She also served a tour of duty in Afghanistan in 2012 as part of the Operation Herrick 16 deployment.

Amy had been promoted to Lance Corporal but was discharged before taking up the post.

'OUR HEARTS ARE BROKEN'

The fitness fanatic rejoined as a Volunteer Reservist in 2017 and also worked as a personal trainer.

Tributes flooded in after her tragic death from heartbroken loved ones.

Her devastated mum Jacquie said her "heart stopped beating" the day her daughter died at an emotional vigil to Amy.

She added: "Amy wasn't loved by one, or hundreds, but thousands.

"No other woman, as long as I live in Doncaster, will have to go through this again.

"Amy was a strong character."

Amy's family also released a touching tribute to the "beautiful and kind" mum who "inspired so many others".

They: "Our hearts are broken and will never truly be repaired.

"We know you will live on in your little girl.

"We love you all the pennies in the world."
