AN EIGHT-YEAR-OLD boy shot his five-year-old sister dead when they were left home alone with a loaded gun.
The boyfriend of their mother was arrested on weapons charges on Monday over the incident – he is a registered sex offender.
Chief Chris Butler, from the Jacksonville Sheriff's office, said the little girl, Serenity Allen, was shot dead when her older brother fired a single round from a gun while they were inside their apartment.
Butler said the children's mother had left to go to a store when the shooting happened on Saturday.
Cops have ruled the killing as an accident.
On Sunday, her boyfriend Maurice Mobley, 34, was arrested by police after he turned himself in.

He was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Officer Christian Hancock said in a news release that police believe Mobley was the person who brought the gun into the family's house.
He is a registered sex offender and has a lengthy criminal record – he was ordered to be held on $200,000 bond before his court appearance.
