Television personality Rachael Ray has authored countless cookbooks and recently released her most recent one to date. With her hit syndicated talk show and now a reboot of her Food Network program 30 Minute Meals, Ray remains a constant presence on the airwaves sharing her recipes and lifestyle tips.

Ray comes from a long line of food enthusiasts, and feels that certain tasks within the food industry can teach people from any profession important life skills.

Latest book

Ray’s new cookbook entitled “Rachael Ray 50: Memories and Meals from a Sweet and Savory Life – A Cookbook” hit the stands on October 15, and conveys the TV host’s trademark down-to-earth voice. “It wasn’t just me writing recipes; it was looking back on 50 years and telling the story of how I got to be where I am today,” Ray said, according to CBS News.

The Food Network star took to Instagram a week before her book was published to let fans know her latest work was on the way. “It’s my hope that this book leaves the home cook with delicious inspiration, and the reader with that quiet smile we all get after we eat our favorite comfort food,” she captioned next to a pic of the book cover on October 8. “Basically I’m going for the afterglow of a BIG bowl of spaghetti.”

Encourages others to pursue their dreams

Ray also has her own namesake magazine and spearheads a music and food festival every year. Despite all her success, the talk show host is modest about her culinary talents and insists that anyone can perfect their skills in the kitchen. “If you have an appetite, you can cook,” she said. “Like, I have some friends that just literally like to eat to stay alive. So, if you don’t enjoy food, no, you can’t cook. But if you do enjoy food, yes. Anybody, absolutely anybody can learn to cook.”

The bestselling cookbook author also feels that those who want to build their own business can achieve their goals, just as she did. “I wrote it because I wanted to…prove to people that anybody could be Rachael Ray. If you’re an American, the American dream is still alive. It’s a love story. It’s an ode to being an American — a grateful American — and a grateful American waitress and food professional,” Ray shared, according to ABC News.

Reminding fans of today’s resources available to aspiring entrepreneurs, Ray encourages people to find their creative calling and utilize the technology we have at our fingertips. “Everybody has a voice now. You can go on a number of platforms and create your own platform,” she said. “For me, if you’re talking about the business side of things, it was filling a niche or creating a product that doesn’t exist.”

Humble beginnings

Ray grew up with a family that loved to cook and shared that passion with those around them. She has a strong sense of modesty and credits much of her success to the values instilled in her by her family. “I grew up in industrial kitchens. My mom was one of ten kids. Our family was always in the kitchen,” she said, as reported by CBS News.

In her book, Ray says she’s “a waitress in my heart and a cook in my soul,” revealing that she worked in kitchens for years. As for fancy titles, Ray eschews them. “I’m a cook, not a chef.”

The culinary mogul feels that professional kitchens and restaurants are ideal opportunities for anyone to learn valuable lessons about hard work and service. “I think that everybody should have to be a dishwasher. I think that everybody should learn how to take an order and serve people, you know?” Ray said. “It’s very humbling, and I think it’s the luckiest thing that ever happened to me that I was born into that industry.”
