Bridie Carter was welcomed to Channel 5’s Home and Away earlier this year as trouble maker Susie McAllister. She was previously best known for starring as Tess Silverman McLeod in the drama McLeod’s Daughters. While she did make an impact in the Australian drama, Susie’s journey on Home and Away was short-lived.

WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Home and Away.

Why did Bridie Carter leave Home and Away as Susie McAllister?

Actress Carter was introduced earlier this year and caused no end of problems for the show’s residents.

From scamming Leah Patterson (Ada Nicademou) and Justin Morgan (James Stewart) out of their savings, to tricking John Palmer (Shane Withington) into thinking she was in love with him, Susie wasn’t exactly the most liked.

Leah and Justin also got some help from newcomer Stephen (Bren Foster) in tracking her down when Susie went missing.

She had scammed him as well which eventually led to the breakdown of his marriage.

Everyone was in shock though when Susie’s body was discovered washed up on the shore.

Someone had murdered her but with so many enemies, it is difficult to predict who.

As of it yet, it remains a mystery who killed Susie but the truth is bound to come out soon.

There isn’t a clear reason why actress Carter did leave the daytime drama though.

Carter had only joined the cast in January so had been in the show a matter of months before being killed off.

The 50-year-old hasn’t spoken out about leaving Home and Away and neither has its creators.

She did, however, cause a lot of commotion from the very beginning of moving to Summer Bay.

So Carter may have been brought in especially for these explosive storylines for her to then be killed off.

Leah, Justin, John and Stephen all have a motive to want to see Susie dead.

Another potential culprit is the long-standing character Irene Roberts (Lynne McGranger) who was the last to see the manipulative woman.

They had a confrontation which resulted in Irene being chloroformed, much to fans’ shock.

Could it have been Irene who woke up and attacked Susie before she fled?

Speaking to New Zealand publication Stuff when she joined the show, Carter said: “It’s very different when you start a show and you are all starting together, but this is a well-oiled beast.

“This show has been going for decades so – even though I’ve been around a long time – it’s still always weird coming into a show as the new person on the block, but I have to say it’s like a family.

“They have just welcomed me with open arms, the cast and the crew.”

Home and Away is available to watch on Channel 5.
