CORONATION Street star Neville Buswell sadly passed away aged 77 on Christmas Day 2019.

Best known for playing womaniser Ray Langton in the ITV soap, here's all you need to know about the late actor…

Who was Neville Buswell?

The actor died on December 25, 2019 but the cause of death is currently unknown.

The sad news was confirmed in an obituary published by undertakers in Las Vegas, who shared his picture along with a poem.

Buswell was born in 1943 in Chapel-en-le-Frith, Derbyshire, where he was a keen rower and rugby player.

He began his acting career with leading roles in Gilbert and Sullivan operettas and theatre.

Neville joined the cast of Corrie in 1966 and was a regular on the cobbles for ten years.

After being written out of the show in 1978, he moved to Las Vegas with his American wife and worked as a croupier in a casino, before becoming a casino manager.

In 1991 he worked as a mortgage broker and made a cameo appearance as Ray in a Corrie one-off special Viva Las Vegas in 1997.

Neville then made a return to Coronation Street in 2005 for a six-week run.

In 2014, Buswell was involved in a child sex probe over allegations he assaulted a 12-year-old girl in his dressing room back in the 1960s.

It was reported at the time that police wrote to him to request an interview – but the actor refused to return to the UK.

Buswell denied the claims saying they were "not true" and that he never met the female fan.

Who did Neville Buswell play in Coronation Street?

Buswell joined Corrie in 1966 as womaniser Ray Langton and famously married Deidre Barlow – only to abandon her with a young daughter and move to Amsterdam.

But he made a return to Coronation Street in 2005 for an explosive six-week storyline.

He was reunited with Deirdre (Anne Kirkbride) and daughter Tracy (Kate Ford) before dying of cancer.

The character died of lung cancer in the show at Deidre's wedding to Ken Barlow (William Roache) in the Rovers Return – leaving daughter Tracy distraught.
