BEAT The Chasers is a new nail-biting series spin on ITV's popular quiz show The Chase.

Hosted by Bradley Walsh viewers will see contestants and Chasers go head to head – here's more on how the show works.

What is Beat The Chasers and how does it work?

Unlike The Chase, Beat the Chasers will see contestants take on up to five all at once.

The series will be hosted by Bradley Walsh, who will call contestants out of the studio audience to compete in Beat the Chasers.

In the Cash Builder round, the contestants will face five multiple-choice questions and have the chance to bank up to £5,000.

But, if they get the first question wrong – they're out.

The contestants will then be given the option of playing between two to all five Chasers.

The higher number of Chasers they go against at once, the more money is up for grabs.

But, the more of them they play against, the quicker the time decreases.

Just like The Chase, the game sees questions change from contestants to the Chasers.

If a contestant gets a question wrong the clock counts down until a question is answered correctly.

Who are The Chasers?

Anne 'The Governess' Hegerty

Anne Hegerty, 61, is one of the 'chasers' on Beat The Chasers after her regular appearance in the same role on The Chase.

She said: "I think what everyone's going to notice is how exciting it is! The game going back and forth between the Chasers and the contestants is like a tennis match."

Hegerty is also recognised for her appearance as a contestant in the 2018 ITV reality show, I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here where she opened up about living with Asperger's syndrome.

In 2016, she was ranked 55th in the World Quizzing Championships and 75th in 2018.

Mark 'The Beast' Labbett

Mark, 54,  from The Chase makes his appearance again as one of the Chasers on Beat The Chasers.

He is no stranger to quiz shows having appeared as a contestant on other TV shows himself and is a regular on quizzing competitions.

Describing the tasks the contestants will face he says: "the key thing is the time advantage- the fewer Chasers they face the more of a time advantage they've got."

"Because we're playing catch up, the pressure is always on us."

He also adds that if The Chase was ever made into a drama he'd like a younger Brain Blessed to play his role!

Jenny 'The Vixen' Ryan

Jenny, 38,  is one of the six chasers on The Chase and reprises her role in this new series.

When asked if she was surprised when contestants took on all five of the Chasers, she said: "yes, I was astonished when people were so gung-ho about it. But it just shows that for quite a lot of people it's not about the money, it's about taking us on and giving us a good fight."

Viewers will also recognise Jenny from her time competing on The X factor where she reached the final landing herself third place.

Paul 'The Sinnerman' Sinha

As one of the professional quizzers on The Chase, fans will recognise him as he takes on the challenge in this new series, Beat The Chasers.

Asked if he was surprised that the contestants dared to take on all five Chasers he says: "Of course not! Everyone likes a challenge"

Adding, "TV quizzing requires skill, judgement and luck. Sometimes all three come in."

In May 2017, Paul revealed on The Chase that he was gay, he then went on to marry his long-term boyfrined, Oliver in December 2019.

Shaun 'The Dark Destroyer' Wallace

Shaun Wallace, 59,  joins forces with the other four Chasers in this new unnerving quiz series.

Alongside his quiz credentials Wallace is also a qualified working Barrister.

Asked what he thought about some of the contestants being recognisable in the quizzing world he said: "A contestant is a contestant…You've got to take the contestants as you find them. Anybody who won money, deserved to win."

In 2018, Wallace released his autobiography, Chasing The Dream.
