TELLY bosses are braced for an avalanche of legal claims for aggrieved guests on the Jeremy Kyle show.
Law firms have already begun receiving enquiries from people scenting cash after the controversial show was axed this week.
They are asking whether they could see damages from the makers of the show if their life has been blighted by appearing in an episode of the programme.
Guests have claimed that being grilled by the host has left them open to public ridicule, ruined relationships and made it difficult to find work.
Legal firms will not actively seek clients in case they are accused of “ambulance chasing” and cashing in on the death of guest Steve Dymond.
Last night one personal injury lawyer in London revealed: “The phones have been ringing with a few people who have been on the show.
“They would have to prove a very strong causal link between going on the show and their life being blighted by an appearance.
“And also strong evidence that they were coerced into appearing on the show by means of say untruths or they were plied with alcohol to make them appear.”
But he added that a strong test case could open the floodgates to a rash of claims from guests.
He added: “We could test the evidence with one very strong case and put if it before a judge if it wasn’t settled beforehand. If the judge ruled in our favour then that could lead to lots more claimants coming forward.
“They’d also be more likely to be settled out-of-court as the makers of the show wouldn’t want to be involved in protracted legal proceedings.
