NBC’s critically acclaimed series, This Is Us, went on a mid-season break from late November to mid-January 2020. Fans are in withdrawal. While we await the show’s return, let’s take a look at what show creator Dan Fogelman leaked so far.

The first individualized episode of ‘This Is Us’ will likely feature Kate Pearson

Fogelman teases that Kate (Chrissy Metz) will get a large amount of story-development in the remainder of season 4 of This Is Us.

“It’s a big part of our back half of the season,” Fogelman told People. In the beginning of the rest of the season, we’re going into these individualized episodes with the Big Three that are interconnected in time, and everyone gets their own focused episode.”

In season 4, fans are hoping to find out what happened with Kate’s (Hannah Zeile) teenage boyfriend, Marc (Austin Abrams). Many fans suspect that he is the reason Kate began gaining weight.

“Marc plays a very big part in the culmination of it all. A lot of answers will be caught in there as to what formed Kate in this stage of her life. This vulnerable young woman who lost the most important person in her life and then finally pulling herself back on to her feet.”

“The first relationship became this guy who there is something other about, that could be a backburner for this young woman,” continued Fogelman. “What this is and how it affected her is definitely something we’re heading into.”

It sounds like viewers will finally get the answers they want about Kate in the remainder of season 4.

In ‘This Is Us’ Season 4, fans will finally find out who Kevin’s new love interest is

The mid-season finale of This Is Us gave us a massive flash-forward into Kevin’s (Justin Hartley) future. He is engaged and has a baby on the way, but the producers left out who the mystery fiance is.

“Kevin is on this quest to find his partner, and his biological clock is ticking as a 39-year-old movie star,” Fogelman laughs. “Who he winds up with, old flames and new flames, is a big part of our back half of this season and one of the big things we will solve by the end of the season.”

Viewers will be happy to find out the big secret behind how Kevin ended up with this new woman.

“I’m super excited to find out who the fiancee is,” wrote one fan on Reddit. “I think it may be Cassidy (Jennifer Morrison) or even Sophie (Alexandra Breckenridge), but I also wouldn’t be shocked if it was someone totally new, as getting engaged and having a baby within nine months of meeting is kind of a very Kevin thing to do.”

There are so many possibilities for who the mystery fiance is. It could be his long-time ex, Sophie, to his new fling, Cassidy, or someone we haven’t met yet.

A significant part of the second half of ‘This Is Us’ Season 4 will feature Randall’s backstory

Along with specialized episodes about each of the Big Three, Randall (Sterling K. Brown) will get additional story development past just one individual episode, according to Fogelman.

“Randall is a giant back half of this season coming up with a couple of specialized episodes that really get inside of him in terms of what’s going on in his wiring and what’s going on in his mind,” Fogelman revealed. “Sterling was just in the writer’s room, and we’re doing this special episode towards the end of the season.”

Fans also are discussing the possibility of Randall having a mental-health breakdown due to the pressure he is under. He is a busy city councilman, husband, father, and now with his mother’s deteriorating condition, there is a chance he could break under it all. At least we know that there will be many episodes coming our way to explore Randall further.

When does ‘This Is Us’ Season 4 return from the mid-season break with these individual episodes?

The mid-season premiere of This Is Us season 4 is on Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2020, at 9 p.m. Eastern time. Kate, Kevin, and Randall will be back along with Rebecca (Mandy Moore) and Jack Pearson (Milo Ventimiglia).
