The Apprentice star Lord Alan Sugar has claimed that the new series of the show might not air until late 2021, thanks to the global coronavirus pandemic.

It was already announced that filming of the 16th series had been postponed due to the growing nature of the virus.

Now, taking to Twitter, Lord Sugar admitted to fans that they could be in a for a very long wait until the show returns to their screens.

In reply to a fan’s question whether the next series had been cancelled, the Amstrad founder wrote: ‘I guess so. [The show] could be back in Spring 2021.

‘Or [it could] skip a whole year and be back in October 2021.’

Previously, a BBC spokesperson confirmed: ‘In light of the spread of Covid-19, after much consideration, Boundless the producers of The Apprentice, have postponed filming in consultation with and supported by the BBC.

‘We will continue to review all productions on a case by case basis and will continue to follow the latest news and advice from the Foreign Office, World Health Organisation and Public Health England.’
