Much of Sarah Lacina’s success in Game Changers came from her strong social connections with several of her co-competitors. Therefore, many competitors in Survivor 40: Winners at War, and viewers at home, questioned Sarah Lacina’s choice to give her reward to Nick Wilson.
However, the Iowa-based police officer claimed she gifted Nick the reward for his birthday and genuinely wanted him to enjoy his day. A few days after the episode aired, she revealed her real reasoning for passing on the food.

Sarah Lacina and Nick Wilson on ‘Survivor 40: Winners at War’
Game Changers champ Sarah Lacina and the most recent winner, Nick Wilson of David vs. Goliath returned for Winners at War. While both started on the same tribe, they weren’t aligned and were rarely seen together. Sarah mostly hung out with Cops-R-Us ally Tony Vlachos, One World champ Kim Spradlin-Wolfe, South Pacific winner Sophie Clarke, and Blood vs. Water Sole Survivor, Tyson Apostol.
On the other hand, Nick aligned with others who didn’t have as many connections, such as Yul Kwon and Wendell Holland. Luckily for him, he swapped to Sele in a tribe switch with his two allies in the majority over Michele Fitzgerald and high school crush, Parvati Shallow.
Unfortunately for Sarah, she swapped with Sophie in the minority with former tribemates Adam Klein, Ben Driebergen, and Rob Mariano. Nonetheless, both Sarah and Nick made it to the merge three eliminations later.
Sarah Lacina confused many by giving her reward to Nick Wilson
In Episode 9, she was a part of the winning tribe and earned Chinese food as a reward. However, the Iowa-based police officer chose to give her reward to Nick, who the tribe blindsided the night prior by eliminating his closest ally, Wendell.
Many castaways, namely Jeremy Collins, Denise Stapley, Adam Klein, and Nick thought she made the strategic decision to reach out to the player who’s on the bottom because the two aren’t particularly close.
However, Sarah insisted she gave up her reward genuinely and sincerely. Her ally Tony also talked to her and explained how the tribe could perceive her actions as a way to eliminate her, but Sarah stood by her decision.
Sarah Lacina revealed the reason she gave up the reward
A few days after the episode aired, the Iowa-based police officer revealed in a tweet that her choice to give the reward to Nick “was neither strategic nor heartfelt.” Instead, she passed on the Chinese food because she’s “allergic.”
Nick responded, joking, “Give me a hamburger and French fries, so I know it’s real.” He also noted Chinese food never came up when the two discussed their cravings on the island.
Many followers replied to Sarah’s confession and claimed they would have done the same in her position. One user noted, “giving it to Nick and saying you just wanted him to have a nice birthday was a strategic lie.” Others weren’t sure if she was only joking, but still find the revelation “hilarious.”
