STRICTLY fans have called for Neil Jones to step down as Alex Scott's dance partner after suffering a nasty injury.

The professional dancer, 37, who was forced to skip last week's live show, is still on crutches following the accident.

The injury has even left him teaching partner Alex, 35, their upcoming American Smooth while on crutches.

Fans took to Twitter to voice their concerns.

One wrote: "Neil should step down it’s not fair to Alex to try and learn a new ballroom dance on her own out of hold – ridiculous #strictly."

A viewer said: "If Neil is still injured and can’t properly train with Alex, then surely she should get a new partner?! Doesn’t seem fair to me. #Strictly #ItTakesTwo."

However, some fans appeared concerned after a clip of Neil on crutches was shown on It Takes Two.

One said: "I hate watching Neil with his crutch it’s so sad seeing him attempt to teach."

While another backed Neil and Alex to win the competition, adding: "Imagine alex scott and neil jones lifting that glitter ball after such an anything but a smooth sailing type of journey they've had on strictly 2019. i'd like to see it."

A third said: "Aw I feel so bad for them! Seeing Neil on a crutch makes me feel like he’s not going to able to dance hope he’s well enough to though."

Neil was struck down with a injury hours before he was set to take to the dance floor- leaving Alex to perform with last-minute stand-in Kevin Clifton.

Since then, the pro dancer has made no secret of his desires to get back into training.

He wrote on Twitter: "Yes I can’t wait this week myself @AlexScott will be dancing American Smooth to “Ain’t no mountain high enough” I just need to hurry up and recover."

The post comes after Neil admitted he was uncertain about whether or not he would be performing this weekend.

Sharing a heartfelt Instagram post earlier this week, he revealed ex footballer Alex had ordered him to focus on his recovery and thanked Kevin for stepping in just 45 minutes before the live show.

He wrote: “WOW it’s been emotional weekend but because of everyone’s support and King  @keviclifton  myself and @alexscott2 are through to dance another dance.

“The moment I got injured all I could think about was Alex and wanting to push to dance with her no matter what.

"But she showed us all how much she has grown on @bbcstrictly with her performance and to think just 8 weeks ago she was a complete beginner.”

Fans of the BBC show believe the record number of injuries and illnesses this series is a new curse.

Taking to Twitter, a viewer wrote: "Honestly the real Strictly curse is the injuries and illnesses this season."

Speculation of a new curse comes days after Will Bayley, 31, was forced to withdraw from the show.

His painful injury, believed to be a torn knee ligament, is the second forced withdrawal this year after Jamie Laing pulled out before the series had even begun, with Emmerdale actor Kelvin Fletcher taking his place.
