With just one week left standing between our favourite Strictly Come Dancing stars and a chance to perform in Blackpool next week, it’s safe to say that all of the celebrities brought their ‘A’ game, to Saturday night’s live show.
From lively Sambas to mesmerising American Smooths, there was no shortage of drama, intrigue and entertainment in this week’s eight dances, however there as one couple who stood out among the rest, and that was this week’s leaderboard toppers Layton Williams and Nikita Kuzmin.
The dynamic duo were able to reclaim their spot at the top of the leaderboard with a flawless Argentine Tango, that even left Craig Revel Horwood with nothing but high praise to say.
The stylish dance was set to this year’s Eurovision Song Contest's winning track, Tattoo by Loreen and featured the perfect combination of immaculate footwork, stage presence and of course theatrical musicality.
Motsi Mabuse was so impressed, she dubbed the performance “iconic” before adding: “Oh man, what are you are doing to us… guys, speechless that happens once in a lifetime to me.”
Shirley Ballas also agreed as she said the dance “went beyond perfection and pure art” and she was “lost in the Layton magic” before the judges awarded a total score of 39 points.
But while it certainly impressed all four of the judges, fans at home couldn’t help but feel that Layton and Nikita had been “robbed” when Craig decided there was still room for improvement in the performance, as he failed to award the couple a 10, despite having dubbed it “Ah-maze-ing.”
Instead, Craig broke ranks from his fellow judges Shirley Ballas, Anton du Beke and Motsi Mabuse, who had all given the top score to the couple, by awarding them a 9 instead, without ever elaborating as to why.
The decision baffled viewers at home, with several taking to social media to express their outrage at the scoring, as they felt the duo deserved to receive the highest possible score for their performance.
“Layton and Nikita were robbed – their Argentine Tango should have got a forty! #StrictlyComeDancing," fumed one unimpressed fan.
A second viewer also agreed as they added: "Leyton was ROBBED of a perfect score there! Deserved a 40 silly Craig #StrictlyComeDancing."
Before a third fan commented: “I swear it must be in Craig’s contract that he can’t give out a 10 before Blackpool or something because Layton and Nikita were just ROBBED of their well deserved perfect 40.”
A fourth viewer then added: “Layton was robbed a 40! #Strictly #scd2023 #StrictlyComeDancing Craig, sometimes you are just a bit miserable!”
While a fifth echoed the sentiment and said: “Nah Craig ROBBED Layton & Nikita there. No criticism yet not a 10?”
Strictly Come Dancing: The Results continues Sunday 12 November at 7:20pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer
