SKY News presenter Kay Burley has pulled out of Sink Or Swim, a charity TV show raising cash to battle cancer.

She signed up for the programme, where celebrities train to swim the English Channel, believing it did not have a competitive element.

A spokesman said: “It is a cause close to her heart and swimming the Channel was a challenge she wanted to face.

“But after passing the medical, it became apparent the nature and format was not how it had been described.”

The line-up includes Towie’s James Argent and Blue singer Simon Webbe.

Channel 4 said everybody joining the four-part show, to be screened later this year for the Stand Up To Cancer appeal, knew they would have their skills assessed and could be prevented from attempting it.

A Channel 4 spokesman said: “All celebrity contributors were fully aware when signing up for Sink Or Swim what the process entailed.

“It is not, and has never been, a competitive show and has no formatted elimination.”
