Saturday Kitchen saw presenter Matt Tebbutt welcome Michel Roux OBE into the kitchen this morning to make spatchcock poussin.
And it wasn’t long before the French chef took control of proceedings and starting ordering Matt around.
To begin with, the famous Michelin-star restauranteur was showing those at home how to spatchcock a young chicken and after seasoning the meat, Michel explained how you had to remove certain bones.
“By the way, I’m taking the wish bone out,” He said and Matt replied: “Ok, so this is the masterclass in spatchcock.”
“It is very important,” the guest chef continued. “Even if you do it for chicken, you should take the wish bone, simply, you’ve got to make sure when you carve your chicken, you’ve got all the meat out.”
After explaining that “all the small details” make a good dish, he changed his utensil and opted for a pair of red scissors.
“Now, by the way you see these?” He turned to Matt and asked whilst snapping his scissors open and shut.
“Yes! Talk us through these scissors,” the presenter engaged and Michel jokingly replied: “Don’t touch it! It’s mine!”
Taken aback by his comment, Saturday Kitchen viewers saw Matt pull his hands into his chest very quickly and say: “Right. Ok, don’t worry! I daren’t! I’m a little bit terrified as it is. ”
Michele then explained: “These [the scissors] are a present from my son, for my 70th birthday. He said ‘Dad, you’re getting a bit younger, so maybe you’ve just got to push it like that!’”
And Matt responded: “Really? Is that what they’re for? Rather than the back of a knife.”
After plating up all the elements of the dish, Michel stood back and exclaimed; “Matt, I think we’ve done a good job!”
The presenter added: “Are you happy? Good, phew, that’s a weight off my mind.”
As for how the dish tasted, former Coronation Street star Catherine Tyldesley said: “Stunning, absolutely stunning. And that salsa is just beautiful.
“And you’re right about the poussin, there is more moisture there.”
It comes after last week’s show when Matt Tebbutt was absent from presenting and instead, Glynn Purnell hosted the show.
However, many viewers were distracted by the chef’s choice of outfit.
Taking to Twitter to comment, many made reference to his shirt’s pattern being similar to an 80s sweet.
Next week on the show, Matt will be joined by Eurovision guests The Fizz, SuRie and Sonia.
Saturday Kitchen airs every Saturday morning at 10am on BBC One.
