Phaedra Parks and Apollo Nida’s lives together were previously followed on Real Housewives of Atlanta (RHOA.) They have since divorced and Nida has been serving time in prison. Find out the latest update about his release and more.
Phaedra Parks’ ex-husband, Apollo Nida pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit mail, wire, and bank fraud
Nida was accused of stealing checks, filing fraudulent tax returns, and making fraudulent claims against the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in at least 11 states. He was arrested in 2014 and later pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit mail, wire, and bank fraud.
“By pleading guilty today, Mr. Nida admits to his conduct in the past, and accepts full responsibility for it,” his lawyer, Thomas D. Bever told Us Weekly.
He was sentenced to 96 months in prison and ordered to pay $1.9 million in restitution. Parks and Nida later divorced. They share two sons. She revealed why she still wanted to keep things about their divorce private.
“I never wanted to negatively speak about Apollo,” she told People. “At the end of the day, Apollo is the children’s father. And so I want them to be able to make their own opinions about who he is as a father.”
She also said, “I don’t want them to look back on television, tabloids or something I said that will make them feel like their father was not a great father. I’m always doing things to err on the side of not saying anything if I can’t say anything that’s not nice about him. It was important to me to maintain some privacy around it.”
Nida was previously released in June
The former reality star was released from prison on June 5 after serving time in the Federal Detention Center (FDC) of Philadelphia. He went to a halfway house, but that later changed.
Nida was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service on June 13, according to People. A spokesperson for the U.S. Marshals Service claimed it was because he violated a technical condition for his release.
He has since moved on romantically after his divorce from Parks. He is engaged to Sherien Almufti, who is a Philadelphia-based realtor. She defended him when the news came out that he was returning to prison.
According to the Daily Mail, she posted a selfie with Nida. It was captioned, “They can’t stop us babe!!! For those who are confused @apollonida03 didn’t violate a goddamn thing. Another crime against a black man in the system. Jealously [sic] is a disease and his PO will die mad!!”
Parks also reacted to the news at the time. “Apollo had been telling me that he was coming home early. I’m of the mindset, ‘I’ll believe it when I see it,’” she told Daily Mail.
She later said, “I was disappointed, but at the same time, I don’t know if I was that shocked because he is a risk taker and I just hate it because now it’s just above all of us, only Jesus can fix it.”
He reportedly has been released to a halfway house
Nida is reportedly out of prison again and is in a halfway house in Philadelphia, according to Page Six. He is reportedly scheduled to be released from federal custody on Nov. 26. He has yet to make a statement about the release.
