PIERS Morgan fears that Kate Garraway's husband Derek Draper will never recover from his coma.
The Good Morning Britain host, 55, spoke to The Sun's TV Mag about his new series of Life Stories and also paid tribute to his brave co-star.
The former lobbyist, 53, contracted coronavirus back in March 2020 and entered a coma as his condition deteriorated.
It has been touch and go for Derek ever since and he is now the country’s longest-fighting Covid-19 patient.
Piers recalled the first time he heard about the news and admitted his heart bleeds for Kate as she continues to live in a "terrible limbo".
He said: "I was going to come to Kate, obviously we’ve had it right at our desk on Good Morning Britain.
"I can remember it happening, it was on my birthday when I heard, March 30th, that he’d been taken to hospital.
"We just hoped he would make a quick recovery, you know he’s 52, he didn’t have any underlying conditions, and he’s still in a coma now.
"It’s talked about that he may never come out of it, she doesn’t know, she’s living in this terrible limbo."
The star also revealed that the last time he got to see Derek was three months prior to him catching the deadly bug.
Kate – who had just taken part in I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here – was on top of the world and they were planning some exciting stuff together for the future.
He continued: "The last time I saw Derek was at my annual Christmas pub party. They were there, Kate had just done the jungle and she came back and a week later she came to my pub party with Derek.
"They were in all the papers because she was so hot from the jungle at the time. I’ve never seen them happier, they were going to review their wedding vows. Then that happened.
"Kate went from being on top of the world to being at the bottom of the world. My heart breaks for her. And it carries on breaking for her. It’s a nightmare for her."
Back in November Kate admitted she felt "physically sick" about spending Christmas without Derek.
But luckily Kate, Derek and their two kids – Darcey Mary, 14, and William, 11 – managed to spend some quality time together during the festive period.
Last month Kate returned to GMB and revealed her children got to see their sick dad Derek for the first time since he contracted the bug.
The presenter is now in a position where she can't see her other half because of third national lockdown.
