This Morning: Phil tries to make Holly laugh
This Morning presenter Phillip Schofield has stepped down as host after two decades in the role.
He took to Instagram on Saturday afternoon to confirm the news after what he described as a “very difficult last few days”.
The news comes amid allegations of a feud between Schofield and his co-host Holly Willoughby, who paid tribute to her presenting partner in her own post on social media.
After becoming a beloved fixture on daytime TV since 2002, long-running viewers will undoubtedly be looking back at their favourite moments from the popular ITV fixture.
Gino’s Gag
Arguably the show’s most iconic moment occurred in 2010 during a segment with Italian TV chef Gino D’Acampo.
When Willoughby claimed his pasta dish was similar to a carbonara, D’Acampo uttered his infamous retort: “If my grandmother had wheels, she would have been a bike!”
His witty comeback prompted fits of giggles from the hosts and caused Schofield to choke on a mouthful of pasta from laughing so hard.
Ever the professional, Schofield quickly moved the segment on, but he’s had his fair share of his own corkers over the years.
Flat Earth Facts
During a 2020 interview with flat-earther Mark Sargent, the presenters struggled to keep straight faces while hearing out his outlandish views.
However, he couldn’t help asking: “I’ve been lucky enough to have flown on Concord and saw the curvature of the Earth. Are you saying that wasn’t real?”
Bag of Shizzle
More recent editions of This Morning featured the hosts playing Spin To Win with lucky audience members.
One caller, Linda, managed to walk away with £3,000 and was given the chance to win more prizes.
After being presented with a goodie bag packed with This Morning merch, Linda exclaimed: “Oh yeah, it’s the bag of s**t, isn’t it?!”
Linda’s pre-watershed obscenity meant Schofield has been calling the goodie bag a “bag of shizzle” ever since.

Clashes With Katie
This Morning hasn’t been afraid of controversy, and Schofield and Willoughby’s chats with commentator Katie Hopkins have sparked plenty of debates on the sofas over the years.
One notorious conversation saw Hopkins claim she hated “lower class names”, such as those associated with locations.
But Schofield quickly called her out, asking: “Isn’t your child called India?”
NTA Nightmare
Back in 2016, Schofield and Willoughby won one of their many National Television Awards, but were faced with the daunting task of presenting the very next morning.
Rather worse for wear, they appeared on set looking bedraggled and wearing the same outfits as the night before and once again launched into a fit of giggles.
Post-Covid Cuddle
Later, the ITV programme struggled with the rest of the world to keep things up and running during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Schofield and Willoughby had been social distancing on-set for nearly two years and were finally able to hug on-screen again for one of the show’s sweetest moments in February 2022.
This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV.
