Season three of Ozark was packed full of twists and turns for the Byrde family, none more so than the impact Helen Pierce (played by Janet McTeer) had on their business. However, as the Netflix series drew to a close, Helen met her comeuppance, setting up a tantalising season four.

WARNING: This article contains major spoilers from Ozark season 3.

Helen and her daughter Erin (Madison Thompson) settled into the Ozarks at the start of season three in order for the Navarro cartel’s lawyer to keep closer tabs on Wendy (Laura Linney) and Marty Byrde (Jason Bateman).

It didn’t take long for the backstabbing and deceit to start – both between Marty and Helen and their children Erin and Charlotte (Sofia Hublitz).

However, Wendy’s brother Ben Davis (Tom Pelphrey) would be the one to push Helen too far, confronting her about the money-laundering business in front of her daughter.

As a result, Helen and Wendy plotted to have Ben killed due to the threat he posed to their business.

Ben’s death hit Wendy hard whereas Helen struggled to feel empathy as his words caused Erin to disown her mother.

Erin was last seen in Ozark telling her mother she “hated her” and was heading back to Chicago to be with her father.

For Helen, who had tried to undercut the Byrdes out of the laundering business, she met a much more gruesome end.

Convinced she had cartel leader Omar Navarro (Felix Solis) on her side, Helen and the Byrdes arrived in Mexico in the series’ final moments.

However, upon their arrival, hitman Nelson(Nelson Bonilla) pulled out his gun and shot Helen in the head.

Omar embraced the Byrde pair and confirmed that they were the two he trusted with his organisation.

While Helen’s story has been well and truly wrapped up, what lies ahead for Erin?

Well, there are numerous clues to suggest Erin will suffer a similar fate to her mother.

Firstly, Omar said Ben’s death was “necessary” and told Wendy she had simply done “what was required.”

Omar clearly holds no empathy or remorse for killing those held dearest to his employees if they pose a threat to his business.

Therefore, surely Erin falls into the same bracket as Ben.

Secondly, Wendy saw how Erin reacted to her mother and the Byrdes when she discovered the truth.

Wendy will undoubtedly presume Erin won’t be able to keep her mouth shut regarding her mother’s business, especially if she’s heading back to Chicago where she can’t be monitored.

And given the part she played in killing her own brother, Wendy wouldn’t think twice giving Erin up to Omar.

Finally, her mother has died so Omar will likely not want questions asked about what happened to her.

Helen came into contact with the FBI and other members of law enforcement so was known to them, would Omar risk her going to the police to report her disappearance or murder?

Ozark season 3 is available to stream on Netflix now.
