Amid the news of several high profile cast exits from Coronation Street, it was inevitable that rumours would start to circulate about where ‘gaps’ would be filled. However, the show has already announced a brand new family with a fifth member to follow as well as the casting of Gemma Winter’s troublesome mum.

A report suggested crisis talks had been held at the soap and a decision made to bring back Kevin Kennedy as Curly Watts in a ‘bid to not isolate Corrie’s older audience.’

However, Metro.co.uk can confirm that this is not the case and fan favourite Curly will not be treading the cobbles again any time soon.

A source close to the show told us: ‘Kevin is a terrific actor but there are currently no plans for Curly to return to the Street. There are no crisis talks being held, nor have there been.’

Lucy Fallon (Bethany Platt), Faye Brookes (Kate Connor), Robert Preston (Tristan Gemmill), Katie McGlynn (Sinead Tinker) and Kym Marsh (Michelle Connor) are all set to leave over the course of the next year in various exit storylines.

Lucy recently clarified that her decision to exit in 2020 at the end of her current contract was nothing to do with the show. She said: ‘Just to clarify, my decision to leave was made in August last year and has nothing to do with ANYONE at Coronation Street. I didn’t make it lightly and I am going to miss every single person there. Excited for my final year at the best place! Woo (sic).’

The same reports are also alleging that Coronation Street bosses are begging Helen Flanagan to return as Rosie Webster after her maternity leave. While Helen has made it clear she would love to return to Corrie, our source added: ‘Helen is not ready to return yet as her baby is still very young.’
