Michael Griffiths was branded “unconvincing” after he claimed he was happy for former flame Amber Gill after she was crowned the winner of Love Island alongside Greg O’Shea.

Michael appeared on Lorraine alongside fellow islander Lucie Donlan to discuss the show’s final when he was quizzed on how he felt after it was announced Amber had won the show shortly after he dumped her.

Speaking to Christine Lampard, Michael insisted he was happy for Amber, denying that he wanted it to be him with her in the final.

“I’m actually so happy for them, just to see the excitement in Amber’s face,” he said.

“Were you thinking ‘that could have been me’,” Christine joked.

To which Michael responded: “No, no, no. Not at all. I was actually so happy for her.

“Just to see that smile on her face is unbelievable. I’m so happy for her. Amber’s been on such a journey, so it’s just what she needed at that time. It’s great,” he added.

Viewers took to Twitter to claim they didn’t believe Michael’s words, with some claiming he wasn’t being sincere.

One viewer wrote: “if this michael guy says he's ‘so happy’ for amber enough – he might convince himself that it's true. must have said it about twenty times there.”

A second wrote: “Michael trying to convince everyone he’s happy for Amber! Lol.”

While a third added: “Michael: 'I'm so happy for Amber, she's been on such a journey…. ' Shall we add it to the list of all his other lies?”

While another unconvinced viewer said: “Michael is definitely not happy for Amber. Jealous is the correct word.”
