Good Morning Britain usually runs smoothly, but on today’s show, Piers Morgan encountered a slight blunder.
The outspoken host discovered just minutes into the broadcast that he couldn’t hear his team in the gallery.
Sitting next to Susanna Reid, the presenter could be seen fiddling around with his ear piece but to no avail.
The first words Piers said on GMB were related to the blunder as he muttered: “Sorry, I can’t hear you, I’ve taken my ear piece out.”
Susanna erupted in laughter as she joked: “Oh, they can hear you now!”
Piers continued: “If I can’t hear anything, it’s going to be total chaos, isn’t it?
“I like to hear them, so I can choose [to ignore them]. I can’t hear a damn thing.
“Nothing,” he added. “There’s no one in my ear.”
The presenters use their ear pieces so the show’s gallery, which homes their production team, can communicate with them and keep them on track.
It’s vital both Piers and Susanna can communicate with them to ensure the show runs smoothly and on time.
Piers offered his broken earpiece to Susanna and quite rightly, she couldn’t hear anything either.
Charlotte Hawkins saw an opportunity for a giggle and said: “The director’s pointing out perhaps if you got here a little bit earlier than 30 seconds before transmission they could have done something.”
Piers swiped back: “What? So I could listen to 15 minute teasers for the show?”
In the meantime, Susanna handed back the broken ear piece and “confirmed” it was indeed a dud.
She added: “It had nothing to do with how early you got into the studio, it just doesn’t work.”
Piers said: “It wouldn’t have started working if I’d got here a minute earlier.”
Thankfully, a member of the sound team entered the set and delivered Piers an “emergency” ear piece.
The host laughed: “Thank you Glen… For making me look stupid!”
As if by magic, Piers could hear his colleagues once again as he joked he preferred it when he couldn’t.
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV at 6am.
