The two actresses previously starred in intense roles, a skill they will have to hone again for their roles in the upcoming Blade Runner spin-off. It was recently announced Samira Wiley and Jessica Henwick have joined the impressive cast for the Adult Swim and Crunchyroll series.
Black Lotus is the brand new anime series and Blade Runner spin-off which has been in the works for a while.
Now fans can be excited the show will soon go into production now a cast has been confirmed.
Black Lotus will be set in 2032, which is the time between the first 1982 movie and Blade Runner 2049.
As an anime series, the main language will be Japanese, however, Samira Wiley and Jessica Henwick will be taking English speaking roles.
The Handmaid’s Tale star is set to play Alani Davis, a recently employed officer at the Los Angeles Police Department.
The Game of Thrones star has been cast as Elle, a female replicant who has been created for secret and unknown reasons.
Also joining the cast is Succession’s actor Brian Cox, who will be lending his voice to the series, just like he did in Blade Runner 2049.
He will be playing Niander Wallace Sr, the founder and CEO of Wallace Corporation,
Will Yun Lee, best known for his roles as Sang Min in Hawaii Five-0, will star alongside the impressive cast as Joseph, owner of spare parts junkyard and a character people find mysterious.
Joining Samira’s character at the LAPD is police chief Earl Grant, who will be portrayed by Stephen Root.
Another character reprising their role from Blade Runner 2049 is Barkhad Abdi, he will be returning as Doc Badger, the dodgy black market dealer.
Cast members also include Gregg Henry as Senator Bannister, Jason Spisak as Hooper, Peyton List as Josephine Grant and Henry Czerny as Doctor M.
The English version of Blade Runner will air on Adult Swim’s anime programming block Toonami.
Whereas the Japanese language version will be available to stream on Crunchyroll, which will also include subtitles.
Their collaboration will ensure that fans outside of Asia will also be able to watch the series.
Black Lotus will have 13 episodes, directed by Shinji Aramaki and Kenji Kamiyama, the show will be featured at Comic-Con later this month.
There is a panel of experts including the showrunners and star Jessica Hnewick will get the first look at the show.
As a spin-off of the highly acclaimed franchise, fans can expect a similar storyline to Blade Runner, so it could also have a combination of sci-fi and noir.
Showrunners and the cast have remained tight-lipped about Black Lotus, not much is known about the storyline, however, Express.co.uk will be updated as more news is released.
Blade Runner: Black Lotus will air on Adult Swim and Crunchyroll later this year.
