First scene of Episode 1 of Frasier

The Frasier reboot is set to air on Paramount+ this month, and confronts a host of challenges, including the absence of characters.

David Hyde Pierce, who played Niles, has been confirmed not to return.

Furthermore, the show will have to navigate the loss of John Mahoney, who played Marty, with plans to address his character’s death in the series.

The reboot, which has been in development for several years before receiving the official green light will see Kelsey Grammer not only rebirthing his role as Frasier Crane but also stepping in as an executive producer.

One prominent challenge is how the show will handle Martin Crane’s absence, especially without Niles’s presence.

Moreover, Martin’s cherished pet dog, Eddie, is presumed to have passed away by the time the reboot takes place.

The original show hinted at Eddie being with Martin for several years prior to Frasier’s return to Seattle.

Given the series’ 11-year duration, it’s probable Eddie passed away of old age shortly after its conclusion.

Interestingly, Moose, the original dog that portrayed Eddie, died in 2006 at the age of 16, aligning with a typical life expectancy for Jack Russells.

Navigating these narrative challenges is crucial for the reboot, especially considering the original’s celebrated run, earning multiple Emmys and widespread fan adoration.

Establishing Frasier’s new chapter outside of Seattle is already a formidable task, and the added responsibility of addressing pivotal characters’ fates, like Martin and Eddie, could make or break the series.

Notably, Eddie’s role was central to the series, emblematic of Frasier’s growth over his 11 years in Seattle.

The Frasier reboot will air on Paramount+.
