Ellis Chapman finally made his return to Emmerdale tonight – but viewers pointed out a major problem.

He made an unexpected return to the village after cutting his trip to Dubai short and had to break up a fight between his brother Billy and dad Al.

Ellis returned with a new face as Aaron Anthony made his on-screen debut after replacing sacked Asan N'Jie.

The shamed actor was sacked for threatening to stab and kill Hollyoaks star Jamie Lomas at the TV Choice awards in September.

But unconvinced Emmerdale actors joked that Ellis had got 10 years older during his time away.

Taking to Twitter , one viewer said: "Dubais' had its affect on Ellis, he's put on weight, aged 10 years and shrunk a few inches"

"How LONG was #Ellis in Dubai for??? #Emmerdale #looks10yearsolder," added another.

A third said: "Welcome to emmerdale beefy ellis who seems to have aged 10 year and put on weight since he went to dubai"

"F*** me, Ellis has grown up in his few months away… he’s changed face and body and everything, what a miracle," said a fourth.

Doctors and Delicious actor Aaron has replaced Asan, who will never return to the soap, as popular character Ellis.

On his new role, Aaron said: "Emmerdale is a cracking show with a brilliant cast that I'm over the moon to now be a part of.

"I know Ellis is a well loved character and I'm looking forward to continuing his journey and all that's in store for him."

Guilt-ridden Asan explained that he wanted “to learn” from his actions after his controversial behaviour at the star-studded bash.

In a grovelling statement, Asan said: “My behaviour at the TV Choice Awards was completely unacceptable and very much out of character.”

“I sincerely apologise to everybody who has been affected especially Jamie Lomas, the whole Emmerdale team, our audience, ITV, my family, and the organisers of the TV Choice Awards.

“I am devastated, accept full responsibility for my actions and I am determined to learn from this.”

The actor then broke his silence in October by putting a positive spin on the events and revealing his hopes for the future.

He tweeted: "All the people who’ve reached out and had my back you’ll never know how much I appreciate you.

"I’ve learned, I’ve grown and now I’m working harder than ever to finish what I started. Keep you’re circle tight and always fall forward! [sic]"

He added: "The universe tends to unfold as it should."
