COUNTDOWN host Nick Hewer was left red-faced when a contestant spelled out the word 'orgies' on the board during yesterday's episode.
Contestant Paul Nixon from Surbiton looked quite proud of himself as he formed the saucy six-letter word from a series of consonants and vowels during one game.
While Paul grinned cheekily as he announced the word he had come up with, Nick managed to avoid bursting into laughter and simply repeated the word back to him.
Susie Dent in Dictionary Corner gave an embarrassed schoolgirl smile as she confirmed: "Yeah, definitely in there. Very good."
"Hmm, now, Pam," added former Apprentice mentor Nick, 75, throwing over to poet Pam Ayres in Dictionary Corner to see if she had any other options.
While Pam managed to come up with another six-letter word, 'Rejigs', she admitted she had "nothing more exciting" like the word Paul had come up with.
Meanwhile, Nick's right-hand woman Rachel Riley managed to keep a mostly-straight as she spelled out the word on the board.
Viewers at home, however, were definitely tickled.
One even took to twitter and made a funny gag about Susie's response.
"'Orgies?' 'They're definitely in there' Kind of the point, isn't it #countdown" wrote sharp tweeter @CharlieR1984.
Of course, this isn't the first time a rude word has popped up on the long-running Channel 4 quiz show.
Just last month, Rachel was left blushing after spelling out the word 'orgasmic'.
The 33-year-old stood by as the contestants tried to guess an eight letter word and looked flushed at Martin Lewis's reply.
The Money Saving Expert, who was a guest in Dictionary Corner, explained: "There is an eight in there, which for me is truly orgasmic."
The audience erupted with laughter, as the camera panned round to show Rachel next to the board which revealed the word – which relates to sexual pleasure.
A similar thing occured in July, when the show was forced to blur out a rude word.
The naughty mishap occurred while contestants Rob and James were embroiled in an intense battle, resulted in Rachel assembling the word w***ers.
